I’ve been so busy adjusting to my job and a new city, but this weekend’s rainy weather kept me indoors and in front of my computer long enough to give my blog some love. A little spring cleaning if you will.
May 6th marked two years since my graduation. I’ve returned to campus to see my friends, go to football games, and visit one of my favorite professors. I’ve joined the alumni association and my alumni sticker has even lost a bit of its luster. However, I’ve been been convinced there is more to being an alumni than buying a sticker and going to homecoming games. My answer came in the form of one of my favorite contractions. Y’all is usually a word uttered or “hollered” by Southerners and I’m as Southern as they get. Y’ALL is also a program at the University of South Carolina that represents young alumni and helps classes of the last ten years leave a lasting legacy at Carolina.
Last week I received news that I was chosen as a finalist for the University of South Carolina’s Face of Y’all(Young Alumni Leaving a Legacy).
It’s time for my shameless plug. I would love to win the Face of Y’all. As the “face” I would get the opportunity to champion and lead young alumni in making a difference on campus and in the community through service and philanthropic efforts.
One of my best friends tweeted me the application link to apply. I honestly didn’t think she was serious, but as I began looking into the program, I realized it was something I am already doing on a smaller scale. Everyone knows that I’m a proud alumna of the real USC (sorry I had to) and talk about my school every chance I get.
For the finals, only USC young alumni (2003-2012) can vote, so please vote for me or share tell a young alumni you know to do so at http://www.faceofyall.com/.
Thanks so much for your support!!
For my non-USC readers– Does your school have a similar programs? How do they engage young alumni?
*The title uses lyrics from Can’t Hold Us x Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Great song!

Good luck!
